Dell Technologies and NVIDIA Unveil Project Helix: Enabling Secure On-Premises Generative AI

Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL) and NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) have joined forces to launch an innovative collaborative effort aimed at simplifying the process of building and utilizing generative AI models on-premises. This strategic initiative aims to enable businesses to swiftly and securely enhance customer service, market intelligence, enterprise search, and various other capabilities through generative AI applications.

This initiative, named Project Helix, will introduce a series of comprehensive solutions, leveraging the technical expertise and pre-built tools derived from Dell and NVIDIA’s cutting-edge infrastructure and software. It encompasses a comprehensive blueprint that empowers enterprises to leverage their proprietary data more effectively, allowing for the responsible and accurate deployment of generative AI.

“Project Helix empowers enterprises with purpose-built AI models to rapidly and securely extract value from the vast amounts of currently underutilized data,” stated Jeff Clarke, Vice Chairman and Co-Chief Operating Officer of Dell Technologies. He emphasized, “With scalable and efficient infrastructure, enterprises can pioneer a new era of generative AI solutions capable of revolutionizing their respective industries.”

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “We are at a pivotal juncture where significant strides in generative AI intersect with enterprise demand for increased efficiency. In collaboration with Dell Technologies, we have developed immensely scalable, highly efficient infrastructure that allows enterprises to securely leverage their data for the creation and operation of generative AI applications.”

Project Helix streamlines the deployment of enterprise generative AI by providing a tested combination of optimized hardware and software, all available through Dell. This empowers businesses to transform their data into more intelligent and valuable outcomes while upholding data privacy. These solutions are poised to facilitate the rapid implementation of customized AI applications that foster trusted decision-making and contribute to business growth.

The initiative’s scope encompasses the entire generative AI lifecycle, spanning infrastructure provisioning, modeling, training, fine-tuning, application development and deployment, as well as inference deployment and result streamlining. Verified designs facilitate the seamless establishment of scalable on-premises generative AI infrastructure.

Dell PowerEdge servers, including the PowerEdge XE9680 and PowerEdge R760xa, have been finely tuned to deliver optimal performance for generative AI training and inference tasks. The combination of Dell servers with NVIDIA® H100 Tensor Core GPUs and NVIDIA Networking forms a robust infrastructure backbone for such workloads. This infrastructure can be complemented with robust and scalable unstructured data storage solutions like Dell PowerScale and Dell ECS Enterprise Object Storage.

Leveraging Dell Validated Designs, businesses can capitalize on the enterprise features of Dell server and storage software, along with the insights provided by Dell CloudIQ software. Project Helix also integrates NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, offering a suite of tools to guide customers through the AI lifecycle. The NVIDIA AI Enterprise suite encompasses over 100 frameworks, pretrained models, and development tools such as the NVIDIA NeMo™ large language model framework and NeMo Guardrails software for constructing secure and effective generative AI chatbots.

Security and privacy are deeply embedded in the foundational components of Project Helix, with features like Secured Component Verification ensuring the protection of on-premises data, thereby mitigating inherent risks and aiding businesses in meeting regulatory requirements.

Bob O’Donnell, President and Chief Analyst at TECHnalysis Research, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “Companies are eager to explore the opportunities that generative AI tools enable for their organizations, but many aren’t sure how to get started. By offering a comprehensive hardware and software solution from trusted brands, Dell Technologies and NVIDIA are providing enterprises with a head start in building and refining AI-powered models that can leverage their own unique assets and create powerful, customized tools.”
